Adopt-a-Highway groups poised to ‘spring clean’ roadsides, help preserve Kentucky’s scenic beauty

Volunteers will be out in force next week to spring clean highways in Breathitt, Estill, Lee, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Powell and Wolfe counties. The Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announced today that the Adopt-a-Highway Spring Clean Week will be held March 21-27.

Beginning Monday, March 8, motorists using KY 7 between Jeff and Viper in Perry County should be aware of a traffic pattern change.
Political candidates cautioned against placing signs on state highway right of way

This year, Kentucky voters will go to the polls to choose various local and state elected officials. Personnel with the Kentucky Department of Highways are already noticing campaign signs illegally placed on the right of way of state-maintained highways. These signs pose various hazards for drivers and for maintenance workers. During each election cycle, state highway workers remove and discard dozens of these illegally-placed signs. Political candidates and their supporters can avoid this by not placing signs on state right of way.
Magoffin County Department of Highways crew’s quick action credited with saving motorist’s life

Quick action by an employee of the Kentucky Department of Highways Magoffin County maintenance garage is being credited with saving the life of a motorist involved in a traffic crash Saturday night.

Department of Highways District 10 launches Twitter feed

Motorists who drive in the area served by the Kentucky Department of Highways District 10 now have a new service available to keep them informed of road conditions and possible delays due to construction or inclement weather. District 10 has launched a Twitter feed, taking advantage of the free Internet service to make pertinent travel information available in real time. Twitter can be accessed from a desktop computer or an Internet-enabled mobile phone.
Year-long closure of KY 1274 begins Wednesday, Oct. 14

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14, KY 1274 in Menifee County will be closed between milepoints 6.5 and 8.0 for a rockfall mitigation project. The closure is expected to last approximately one year. Local traffic will be detoured via a signed route consisting of KY 36, US 460 and KY 1693.
Weight limit on KY 451 bridge at Glomawr reduced to 15 tons

The Kentucky Department of Highways has reduced the weight limit on the bridge carrying KY 451 over the North Fork of the Kentucky River at Glomawr in Perry County to 15 tons, effective immediately.
